Winter Storm Petra Forecast

Winter Storm Petra is currently moving up the eastern seaboard. My main concern from this storm is flooding from the wet side of this system in the southern states where we could have record-breaking rainfall and icing from the wintry side of this system.

We currently have winter storm warnings up for parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC for the threat of significant snow and ice.

Now I'm going to focus on the weather for the Southern New England region.

Winter weather advisories are in effect for most of this region for the threat of 1 to 4 inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of tonight. Locally heavy precip is also possible with this in the New England region. Then, the snow and ice will possibly change over to a brief period of plain rain before ending early tomorrow morning. Tomorrow will actually be a very pleasant day with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s and sunny skies in the afternoon. A very rapid change in weather for the New England region for sure!

Now we turn to the wet side of this system. Multiple flash flood warnings have been issued throughout the day in states like Mississippi and Tennessee and more are expected. Flash flood watches and flood watches are in effect from extreme southwestern Pennsylvania to western Mississippi for the threat of continuous bands of heavy rain.

Stay tuned for more blogs like this! I'll try to get back in the habit of doing them!
