Winter Storm Gia

Many areas are under winter weather advisories and warnings.

Let's go from west to east and break down the forecast.

We'll start off with Colorado. The main impacts from Gia in this area is going to be 8-12 inches, with locally higher amounts in the highest terrain of the Rocky Mountains. I think 4-6 inches in Denver is a good bet, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect. Snow will last in this area through tomorrow morning, with the winter storm warning around Castle Rock, Colorado lasting until midnight tomorrow, and the winter weather advisory in Denver lasting also until midnight tomorrow.

Now let's go hundreds of miles east to Missouri, where winter storm warnings are in effect for 8-16 inches of snow possible. Well, the winter storm warnings really start in extreme North-Eastern Kansas and continue all the way until you get to Ohio. I think the bulk of the snow however will be in Missouri, with up to 18 inches possible around the St. Louis area according to the FV3-GFS model. If this model is correct, it would be a very historic storm for the St. Louis metro area. Here's the more precise forecast for Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio:

Missouri:

Northern Missouri: 3-8 inches

Southern Missouri: 1-13 inches (Yes, there is that big of a difference in snow totals)

Illinois:

Northern Illinois: 3-8 inches

Southern Illinois: 3-6 inches

Indiana:

Northern Indiana: 2-7 inches

Southern Indiana: 4-7 inches

Ohio: (Only the Western and Southern half of Ohio will see the worst impacts of Gia)

Western Ohio: 2-6 inches

Southern Ohio: 2-4 inches with locally higher amounts

Finally, let's go to the east, where winter storm warnings are already in effect for places like Roanoke, Virginia, and places south of Washington, DC. According to the GFS model, 6 to locally 10 inches is possible, but the National Weather Service says in their text of the winter storm warning around the Roanoke area "Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches expected", so everything will depend on where the rain/snow line sets up. Thanks for tuning in, and I will keep you guys updated on the latest information on this winter storm!
